Ponce de Leon's discoveries had several effects. His discovery of Florida led to Spain claiming property in the New World. Also, because Spanish people started settling in Florida, this is what led to the development of Latin America. It is why in Latin America it is primarily Spanish. The discovery of the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic Ocean affected explorers because it helped them to navigate the ocean better and use the stream to their advantage. Lastly, the effect of gold, added to the wealth of Spain and giving them more control in other parts of the world. Ponce de Leon affected Spain greatly.
